Off to the Coast

Sister selfie
Shortly after Brandt's family came to visit mine stopped by for some face time! My sister came by a few days before my parents flew out and we headed to the coast. We meandered up and down the beach, taking in the sun along with the salty wind. Haystack Rock is supposed to be a big deal so we walked toward the 235 foot tall natural structure.

The coast! Complete with little sister's hair blowing in the breeze.

Haystack Rock surrounded by typical Oregon fog.

Walking in the sand is no easy task and we eventually moved up to the paved roads. We happened upon this warning sign and it warranted a picture. I've heard of deadly riptides and waves... but logs? That one was new to me!

The Oregon coast, at least the section nearest Portland, has a lot of glass shops. I love glass (just like my mom!) and we had to stop by one in Cannon Beach. This one was especially impressive because you can watch them as they craft in the huge furnace. We showed up during lunch and they weren't crafting but we were able to ta.k with the owners. My sister has an art degree and has been to Italy so she knew much more than I did. It was great to hear about the owners' travels and about glass work.

We pretty hungry and asked for advice on a place for lunch nearby. One of the owners suggested clam chowder at the Driftwood so we headed North to eat. It was a great suggestion and lunch was superb! We decided to eat outside even though it was a little chilly. The sun was peaking through and provided enough warmth, in addition to the chowder. We were tired from the early morning and long walk so we went back to Portland for a nap.

I enjoyed the pumpkin decorations outside.

After our power nap, we went to Helium Comedy Club for some live humor. You can't take pictures during the sets, and honestly the best part are the jokes which a picture can't represent. I did get one shot of the backdrop, which was perfectly Portland.

Like most comedy clubs, you have to purchase two items. We didn't eat dinner due to this and the issue of the power naps taking up most of the time between the beach and the club. We planned to get apps and a drink as a substitute for a real dinner. The problem was that our server was terrible. She took our drink order and when she delivered it, we hadn't decided on food yet. We should have taken the opportunity when it was there because she didn't stop back by for another hour. Our bellies were grumbling and I was getting quite angry, despite the great comedy on the stage. I eventually got her attention and we ordered. Our food came out quickly, probably because everyone else was done and getting their checks. We gobbled up everything and finished shortly before the last comedian left the stage.

Overall, I recommend the club but either things were off that night or order your food immediately because your server may never come back.
